| Input The members/sets of members that you want to design are transferred automatically from RSTAB to the add-on module. You can also use the filter function (for example to select only vertical members made of concrete) to select the corresponding elements automatically or to define them manually. Then you can assign load cases, load groups and load combinations resulting in the linear-elastically determined internal forces on the selected members. When you want to take into account creeping, you have to define the creep-producing load additionally. The RSTAB materials are preset but can be adjusted in the add-on module. The material properties of the relevant standard are stored in the library. The column's constructional properties as well as the specifications for determining the required longitudinal and shear reinforcement can easily be defined. The effective length coefficient ß can be defined manually, determined automatically by the module or imported from the add-on module RSBUCK . Optionally, you can perform the fire protection design according to DIN 4102, part 4, together with the specifications mentioned in DIN 4102-22. The design is carried out successfully when the design ratio a1 is less than 1.0 and the column's minimum dimension as well as the concrete cover's minimum spacing are met. For the fire resistance design according to EN 1992-1-2, you can enter detailed specifications, for example the definition of the cross-section sides where charring occurs (in preparation). |

| Design For the design concerning safety against bending failure, CONCRETE Columns analyzes decisive locations on the column for axial force and moments. For the design shear resistance, the program takes into account additionally the locations with the shear forces' extreme values. While calculating, the module decides if a standard design is sufficient or if the column with its moments must be designed according to the second-order analysis. The moments are determined from the previously entered specifications. The calculation is divided in four parts:

| Results When the design has been carried out successfully, CONCRETE Columns displays the results clearly arranged in tables. Each intermediate value is listed, thus the design becomes transparent. The results are arranged according to load cases, cross-sections, members and sets of members. The reinforcement proposal for the longitudinal and the shear reinforcement is created by taking into account all constructional specifications. The reinforcement is represented by a drawing in 3D including dimensions. This reinforcement proposal can be modified according to your individual needs. A three-dimensional graphic shows the exact distribution of strain and stress across the cross-section. If one of the fire protection designs according to DIN 4102 is not fulfilled, CONCRETE Columns increases the required reinforcement until either all designs are carried out successfully or no reinforcement layout can be found. The columns together with their reinforcement can be visualized in the 3D rendering as well as in the RSTAB work window. In addition to the input and results data including design details displayed in tables, you can integrate all graphics into the printout report. In this way, a comprehensible and clearly arranged documentation is guaranteed. |
