RF-STAGES 4.xx

Construction Stages for RFEM Structures

RF-STAGES is an add-on module for RFEM that analyzes frameworks including the influence of construction stages. These effects may lead to significant errors when calculating entire building models. RF-STAGES allows you to simulate these effects and to use the results for designing the structural system.

Features

  • Easy definition of construction stages in the RFEM model including visualization
  • Addition, removal, and modification of member properties like releases or support conditions on nodes
  • Optional superposition of construction stages with additional temporary loads, for example mounting loads or mounting cranes etc.
  • Includes non-linear effects like compression-only members, elastic foundations or non-linear supports
  • Numerical result listing and graphical view of results for individual construction stages or as an envelope (Max/Min) for all construction stages
  • Detailed printout report including all structural and load data for each construction stage

Entering Construction Stages

After having created the entire structure in RFEM, the individual members and load cases are assigned to the corresponding construction stages. For each construction stage, you can modify the member release definitions and support conditions on nodes. This way you can model system changes, as they occur by successive grouting of bridge girders or by settling of columns. The load cases and load groups defined in RFEM are assigned to "Permanent Loads" and "Temporary Loads". Results from temporary loads (or envelopes of several temporary load cases) are added to the results of permanent loads. In this way, it is possible to add the max/min internal forces of different crane positions or temporary mounting loads to the construction stage.

Calculation Process

The calculation of the "Permanent Loads" is done by a large deformation analysis step-by-step for each construction stage. Differences in geometry between the ideal system and the deformed system from the previous construction stage are compensated internally. The next construction stage is based on the stressed system from the previous construction stage.

Results and Export

After the calculation, the results of each construction stage are listed in a table. They can be exported to RFEM and then also viewed graphically.
This way, a number of result cases for each construction stage exists. In addition, an evelope that includes the maximum and minimum values of all construction stages is created.
The results can be used for the design in various RFEM modules.
