RFEM 4.xx

Finite Element Method (FEM) Software for Design of Plates, Walls, Shells, Solids and Frameworks

RFEM 4 represents the program using 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) that meets the requirements of modern civil engineering and mirrors the current state of art. RFEM is used as the basic program to determine internal forces, deformations, support reactions and stresses of plates, shells, solids, frameworks or composite structures.

RFEM is especially suitable for concrete, timber and steel structures, but can be applied in other branches, for example in plant or machine engineering and glass structures.

For the design of different structural elements, adequate add-on modules are available. There, specific features of the materials and codes are considered. Also dimensioning and other special analyses (stability, dynamics, etc.) are carried out in the modules. Due to this modular layout, a package can be assembled that satisfies individual demands the most.

In the following paragraphs, detailed information on the possibilities of RFEM is presented. If you prefer to experience the program directly, we recommend you to try our demo version.

News in RFEM 4

To RFEM 4, a number of news and improvements is added that accelerate calculation speed and extend the RFEM usage in practice. The overview of news and their description can be found in the following page.

User Interface

The structural input can be carried out graphically in a CAD-like interface as well as numerically in tables. Additionally, there is a possibility to use the context menus (right-click any item) in the data navigator. The input can be permanently checked visually by means of the photorealistic visualization of the structure as a 3D rendered OpenGL graphic.

Design

RFEM 4 offers you a series of effective tools to create a static structural model quickly. With the library of parametrized blocks you can generate commonly used structures or snow and wind loads according to new European standards. Advanced modeling functions facilitate the creation of the model in the RFEM program directly, thus it is not necessary to work in a different CAD program and import the data to RFEM for a static calculation consequently. The basic program also offers a possibility to define member and support non-linearities as well as eccentric connections or elastic foundations.

Analysis

In RFEM 4, the calculation can be carried out optionally according to the 1st or 2nd order theory or according to the large deformation analysis (Newton-Raphson) for all surface and member types. Results of individual load cases can be superimposed within load combinations to determine decisive values for a structrural design. The new version of RFEM uses a completely new equation solver that enables to utilize multi-core processors and deals with memory efficiently. This accelerates the calculation especially in case of complex and extensive structures with many load cases.

Results and Printout Report

Results can be displayed in RFEM in a number of ways. Numeric results are presented in synoptic tables, arranged according to different criteria, in the bottom part of the screen. Graphic results are viewed directly on the 3D model and are linked to results in tables.
Different options to filter the results can reduce the number of displayed table lines and thus improve the overview. For more complex structures, it is possible to display the results only on a selected model part. The printout report is generated automatically and can be completed with screen graphic.

Project Manager

RFEM 4 includes a project manager that enables to display all projects and cases synoptically, thus they can be accessed for all available actions. Individual cases can be easily moved and copied among different projects using the Drag & drop mouse operation. Graphic previews are used to find a certain case quickly. Within this project manager, the cases and projects can be archived. It represents the management center for all Dlubal projects.

Integration of RFEM and Revit Structure

New RFEM enables easy two-way transition between the architectural and static model.

Data Exchange

The data exchange among programs becomes more and more important. RFEM 4 offers a variety of interfaces for import or export of structural data to external programs. Time is saved and the risk of errors is reduced. Using the RF-COM interface a direct interconnection of programs is provided.

Snap Layers

Structural modeling can be considerably accelerated by usage of snap layers, that can be underlaid as a referential drawing and you can use the grab function to create the structural model.
