RSIMP 7.xx

Generation of Equivalent Geometric Imperfections and Creation of Pre-Deformed Initial Structures

RSIMP is an add-on module for RSTAB that generates equivalent geometric imperfections (i.e. loads according to DIN 18800) to respect drift and camber of compression members. Alternatively, pre-deformed initial structures are created for RSTAB according to the dynamic eigenvalues, buckling modes or deformations of RSTAB load cases.
Taking into account the imperfections in a 2nd order theory analysis, the user can judge the influence of a structure's imperfections which result in additional horizontal loads or additional bending moments in columns.
The advantage of equivalent geometric imperfections is that it is possible to work with a perfect geometry of the model and still to carry out a safe design including its imperfections. Simultaneously, the buckling design can be settled for any section by a 2nd order theory calculation.
Program Features
  • Generation of equivalent geometric imperfections or of a pre-deformed initial structure based on the displacements of a calculated RSTAB load case (often the most unfavorable direction)
  • Generation of equivalent geometric imperfections or of a pre-deformed initial structure based on RSBUCK buckling mode (often the significant direction for buckling)
  • Generation of equivalent geometric imperfections or of a pre-deformed initial structure based on a DYNAM Basic eigenvalue (dynamic mode)
  • Determination of drift and camber conforming to standards and to the buckling stress curves of the cross-sections
  • Simple adoption of the imperfections as a specific load case in RSTAB
Input

RSIMP consists of clearly arranged input masks. You can decide whether imperfections according to buckling modes, to dynamic modes or to the deformations of an RSTAB load case are to be created. Along with this, the magnitudes of the drift and/or camber are entered.

Analysis and Results

After the generation of the imperfections, they can be checked graphically or in a result table and subsequently transferred to RSTAB as a load case. In case of an pre-deformed initial structure, the RSTAB model is modified. In doing so, the displacements are scaled to a user-definable maximum ordinate, which is often practiced with shell-shaped structures.
To get the full scope of calculations possible, the use of RSBUCK and DYNAM Basic is recommended.
