RFEM Interface for Data Import
in Formats Step, IGES, ACIS 
The add-on module RX-LINK extends the options for data import in RFEM. After successful installation, the following additional interfaces are available:
  • Standard Acis Text Format (*.sat)
  • Initial Graphics Exchange Specification (*.igs, *.iges)
  • Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data (*. stp, *.step)
These data formats allow import of a model geometry in a form of boundary lines, surfaces and solids. The models can be imported either as RFEM objects (nodes, lines, surfaces, solids) or as underlying layers for manual scanning of points. The quality of the imported model depends on the original program. The import runs solely through exchange file formats. The mentioned formats are widespread mainly in the area of mechanical engineering. The compiler uses a toolbox from Spatial, which can be installed by a separate routine.
Standard ACIS Text Format (*.sat)

The ACIS SAT data format is smaller than other 3D-formats and saves time for import and export of models. Moreover, the SAT format is considered quite robust, and all geometry and topology data, if supported in RFEM, are preserved in the high-accuracy SAT models.
 
Initial Graphics Exchange Specification (*.igs, *.iges)

The Initial Graphics Exchange Specification (IGES) format is defined as a neutral, highly independent data format which is used for data exchange among Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs.
 
Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data (*.stp, *.step)

Concerning the STEP format, it is the interface initiated by ISO (ISO 10303). Using the STEP format, all the important RFEM forms (line, surface and solid models) can be transferred from CAD models.

Note:
Do not confuse this format and the product interface DSTV (Deutscher Stahlbau Verband) that uses the same file extension *.stp.
