Cross-Section Input SHAPE-THIN contains a comprehensive library of welded and parameterized section types. These can be combined or supplemented with new elements. It is no problem to model sections consisting of different materials. Graphical tools and functions enable you to model complex sectional shapes in a manner that you are used from CAD programs. The graphical input allows, among others, for setting point elements, arcs or parameterized rectangular and circular sections. Alternatively, you can import a DXF file and use it as the basis for further modeling. Elements can be divided or attached to other objects graphically. SHAPE-THIN automatically divides the elements and provides for an uninterrupted shear flow by introducing dummy elements. For dummy elements, it is possible to define a specific thickness to control the shear transfer.

Analysis SHAPE-THIN calculates all relevant cross-section properties, inclusive of the plastic limit forces and moments. Overlapping areas are accounted for in a realistic way. For sections consisting of different materials, SHAPE-THIN determines the ideal section properties with respect to a reference material. Apart from the elastic stress analysis, a plastic design can be performed which includes the interaction of the internal forces for sectional shapes of any kind. This plastic interaction design is carried out according to the Simplex method. The yield hypothesis can be chosen according to Tresca or von Mises. Optionally, SHAPE-THIN checks the limit values (c/t) following the design methods el-el, el-pl or pl-pl according to DIN 18800. The (c/t) zones of elements connected in the same direction are recognized automatically. The section properties and stresses of the effective cross-section can be determined according to DIN 18800 or

Results All results can be evaluated numerically and graphically in an attractive way. For the visualization, selection tools enable you to examine the results in detail. The printout report is consistent with the high standards of RSTAB and RFEM. Modifications of the section are updated automatically. Furthermore, a condensed short form printout can be created that includes all relevant section data and a user-defined image.
