TIMBER Pro 7.xx

Design of Timber Members and Sets of Members

The program TIMBER Pro is integrated into the user interface of the framework program RSTAB as an optional add-on module. TIMBER Pro designs timber members and sets of members according to new design procedures in the following standards:
  •  EN 1995-1-1:2004-11+A1:2008
  •  SIA 265:2003
  •  DIN 1052:2008-12
A comprehensive cross-section library and an extendable material library are available, including specific parameters given by a relevant standard.

The TIMBER Pro module carries out the ultimate limit state design and serviceability limit state design. The stability analysis, either by means of the equivalent member method or the second order theory, is also included in the calculation process. In addition, the fire resistance design is available.
In TIMBER Pro, you can optimize cross-sections and export them to RSTAB.
Program Features
  • Full integration into RSTAB with a possibility to import all relevant data and internal forces
  • Analysis and design are carried out according to EN 1995-1-1:2004-11+A1:2008 (Eurocode 5), SIA 265:2003 or DIN 1052:2008-12
  • For the standard EN 1995-1-1, the following national annex documents (NAD) are available:
    •  BS EN 1995-1-1/NA:2006 (Great Britain)

  • Parts list and quantity surveying
  • Direct data export to MS Excel
  • Design of round and rectangular cross-sections
  • Fire resistance design can be carried out according the following standards:
    •  EN 1995-1-2:2004+AC:2006-06
    •  SIA 265:2003
    •  DIN 4102-22:2004
  • Free choice of the fire resistance class and charring rate
  • Exposure to fire can be specified on four sides
  • Import of buckling lengths and lateral buckling lengths from the module RSBUCK
  • For tapered members, additional analyses are done according to a selected standard
  • In case a ridge has been defined, the ridge design and analysis of transversal tension stresses are carried out as well

Input

After opening the module, you specify the members or sets of members that you want to design manually by numbers or you can pick them graphically. Then you choose the relevant load cases, load groups or load combinations for the ultimate and serviceability limit state design and also for the fire resistance design. The materials defined in RSTAB are already preset, but you can change them in TIMBER Pro. Material properties according to a relevant standard are stored in the library.

After checking the cross-sections, you assign the load duration classes (LDC) and the service classes (SECL) to selected load cases resp. members.

If the stability analysis is carried out according to the equivalent member method, you must define effective lengths for members and sets of members. The preset lenghts can can be modified directly or by means of the coefficient ß.

For the deformation analysis, you must specify reference lenghts of the relevant members and sets of members, considering the displacement direction, precamber, and beam type.

For the fire resistance design, TIMBER Pro allows detailed specifications, for example exposure to fire on selected sides.

Analysis

When designing the cross-section resistance, TIMBER Pro analyzes tension and compression along the grain, bending, bending and tension/compression, and also shear due to a shear force with and without torsion. The analysis proceeds at the level of design stress values.

For the design of members subjected to buckling or lateral buckling, according to the equivalent member method, the program considers axial compression, bending with and without a compressive force, and also bending and tension. Deflection for inner spans and cantilevers is determined in characteristic and quasi-permanent design situations.

You can analyze selected members, sets of members, and loads flexibly in separate design cases. The stability analyses can proceed in separate design cases as well.

Results and Output

After the successful analysis, results are divided into synoptic tables. You can read every intermediate value, thereby the design becomes transparent. The results are listed by load case, cross-section, member or set of members.

If the analysis fails, you can modify the relevant cross-sections in an optimization process. You can transfer optimized cross-sections to RSTAB to recalculate them.

The stress ratio is represented graphically by different colors on the RSTAB model. Thus, overdesigned or crucial areas of the structure can be recognized at a glance. Moreover, result diagrams for specific members and sets of members allow a targeted evaluation.

You can incorporate TIMBER Pro input and result tables with all design details and all graphics to the RSTAB printout report. In this way, follow-up and schematic documentation is provided.
