C-TO-T 7.xx

Design of Limit Slenderness Values (c/t)
According to DIN 18800

The RSTAB add-on module C-TO-T checks the effectiveness of cross-section elements under compressive stresses. The design is described in the standard DIN 18800, part 1, el. (745) and (753), and in tables 12 to 15. Having fulfilled the requirements of the width-to-thickness analysis, stability designs for buckling are no longer necessary.
Features

  • Full integration in RSTAB with import of relevant internal forces
  • Designs for elastic-elastic and elastic-plastic method
  • Graphical selection of members and sets of members for design
  • Analysis for several load and design cases
  • Design based on (c/t) ratios integrated in the cross-section library for (c/t) parts restrained on one or both sides
  • Option to consider shear stresses according to comment concerning el. (745)
  • Option to take into account the thickness of welds for welded cross-sections, which affect the cross-section parts by reducing their width
  • Cross-section optimization with export option for modified cross-sections
Input

All relevant RSTAB data is preset appropriately in the module. Therefore, the input is reduced to the definition of the relevant members, sets of members and actions. It is also possible to select the structural objects graphically in the RSTAB model.

The already preset materials and cross-sections can always be modified. When you adjust materials or sections, you can take advantage of the libraries already used in RSTAB.

Design

Complex buckling designs, for welded cross-sections with thin sheets in particular, can be avoided with the C-TO-T module: When the (c/t) design is fulfilled, you can exclude the failure due to buckling of cross-section parts.

If the design is not fulfilled, you can use the add-on module
FE-LTB to perform the design in accordance with DIN 18800, part 3, by determining the buckling stresses properly.

Design Results

The results tables are arranged according to cross-sections, members, sets of members and x-locations. The design criteria are visualized on the RSTAB model so that you can detect critical structural components immediately. In RSTAB, you have access to all the tools used for graphical evaluation such as the zoom and partial view function, the panel or the print options.

In case the design is not fulfilled, it is possible to optimize the cross-section: C-TO-T selects the cross-section from the same cross-section table row which performs the design with a design ratio as high as possible. Finally, you can export the optimized cross-sections to RSTAB to calculate the internal forces again.

All results tables can be transferred to MS Excel or OpenOffice.org Calc.
