CRANEWAY 7.xx

Crane Girder Analysis
According to DIN 4132 and DIN 18800

The add-on module CRANEWAY designs crane runway girders according to DIN 4132 (02.81) and DIN 18800 (11.90). The module is integrated in RSTAB but can also be used as a stand-alone program.

First, enter the data for the crane girder in the CRANEWAY module. Then, the structural system and its loads defined in the module will be transferred to RSTAB for calculation. Based on the defined loads the program creates load cases that are combined in load positions (three load groups for each load position). Each load group is calculated with three load levels in order to determine the internal forces for the general stress design, the deformation analysis and the fatigue design.

The internal forces are determined according to the second-order analysis for warping torsion.
Finally, CRANEWAY uses these internal forces to perform the respective designs.
Features

  • Stress design for crane runway and welds
  • Fatigue design for crane runway and welds
  • Deformation analysis
  • Plate buckling design for wheel load introduction
  • Stability analysis for lateral torsional buckling according to the second-order analysis for torsional buckling (1D-FEA element)

Input

CRANEWAY provides several clearly arranged input tables for geometry, material, cross-sections, actions and imperfections:

Geometry:
  • Quick and comfortable data input
  • To define the support conditions, various support types are available (hinged, hinged movable, rigid and user-defined as well as lateral on upper or bottom flange).
  • Optionally, a warping restraint can be selected.

CRANEWAY cross-sections:
  • I-shaped rolled cross-sections (I, IPE, HE-B, etc., W, M, S, HP, UB, UC and further cross-section tables according to AISC, ARBED, British Steel, Gost, TU, JIS, YB, GB) can be combined with additional sections on the upper flange (angles or channels) as well as rail (SA, SF) or splice having user-defined dimensions.
  • Unsymmetrical I-sections (type IU) can also be combined with stiffeners on the upper flange as well as with rail and splice.

Actions:
  • The program is able to take into account the actions of up to three cranes in operation at the same time. In the simplest case, you select a standard crane from the crane runway library provided by the program. It is also possible to enter the data manually.
  • Lateral loads can be taken into account according to DIN 4143, section 3.1, as main load for the stress design and/or the fatigue design.
  • Optionally, forces from the crane's skewing can be increased by 10% according to DIN 4132, section 3.2.1.1.

Imperfections:
  • Imperfections are applied with view to the first eigenvibration mode, either identically for all load groups that will be calculated or individually for each load group because the eigenmodes may vary depending on the load.
  • To scale the eigenmodes, the program provides comfortable tools in accordance with DIN 18800 part 2, el. 201 and el. 202 (determination of rises for inclination and camber).

Design

During the calculation the module creates crane loads in predefined distances as load case for the crane runway. The load increment for cranes moving across the crane runway can be set individually.

For each crane position the program analyzes three load cases from the main and secondary loads.
In addition, CRANEWAY provides comprehensive setting options to control the FE calculation (length of finite elements, stop criteria etc.).

The program calculates the internal forces along the crane girder on particular x-locations in the imperfect system according to the second-order analysis for torsional buckling.
A local exceeding of limit stresses according to DIN 18800 part 1, el. 749 can be allowed.

Results

All design results are displayed in tables that are arranged according to specific subjects. The result values in the tables are shown always together with the corresponding cross-section graphic. It is also possible to represent every intermediate value.

General stress design
The general stress design for the crane girder is carried out by a calculation of the existing stresses and a comparison of the limit normal, the limit shear and the limit equivalent stresses. The general stress design is performed for welds as well, concerning parallel and vertical shear stresses and their superposition.

Fatigue design
The stress diagram of the crane passage is recorded for each stress point. The stress curves are evaluated by means of the Rainflow method. Their result peaks are compared with the allowable values mentioned in DIN 4132. The Rainflow method allows for the summation of stress spans in accordance with DIN 4132, equation (4), and thus for designs that are considerably more efficient.

Buckling design
The buckling design is carried out according to DIN 18800, part 3, considering normal stresses, shear stresses and shear stresses from local actions. The design is performed in accordance with the interaction condition (14) described in DIN 18800, part 3.

Deformation analysis
The deformation analysis is carried out for the vertical and horizontal direction separately. Calculated displacements are compared with the allowed values. The allowable deformation ratios can be specified individually in the calculation parameters.

Lateral torsional buckling design
The design against lateral torsional buckling is performed according to the second-order analysis for torsional buckling considering imperfections. The general stress design must be fulfilled, but the critical load factor must not be less than 1.00. Therefore the corresponding critical load factor is displayed for all load groups of the stress design.

Support forces
The program determines all support forces from the characteristic loads.
