Description
The master Thesis "Design of Arch Bridge" is focused on development and designing of arches and arch bridges and includes the representative conceptual design of the bridge structure. Theoretical part of the Thesis is comprised of the partly historical research of the topic (arches and arch bridges) and of the analysis of the benefits of various shapes of fixed arches.
Central part of the Thesis is the conceptual design and evaluation of the road bridge over a valley with maximum span 140.0 m and with total length of 266.9 m. The project is tackled as an arch bridge with prestressed bridge deck. Calculations are done according to the current CSN EN codes and resolve the issue of arrangement of the structural elements of the bridge, design of prestressing, reinforcement of key elements of the bridge, stability of the structure and construction phases.

Description ... The surface transferring the forces has been simulated by four models and compared with the measurements. The individual values of the load cells could not be reproduced, thus a restriction to the mean stress was required. For the calculation with the Dlubal program RFEM, temperature, shrinkage and creep were taken into account. To determine the stresses on the contact surface of the impost, the bedding module method was applied...

Programs and modules used RSTAB, Zusatzmodule, RX-HOLZ
Number of pages 111
Table of contents
Description ... The following thesis represents a structural analysis of an event stage. I have checked various layouts. One of the most important points for planning was the challenge to design a structure that was not too difficult or complex. It was required that the stage can be built, as far as possible, by volunteers of the community and workers from the building yard under supervision of a local timber construction company...

... The thesis' problem definition is restricted to the layout of the geometry and the structural design of the construction...

5. Bachelor Thesis Susanne Schreiber

Subject Stability analysis of a framework shell stressed by imperfections

Description ...The Bachelor thesis provides a stability analysis for a framework shell stressed by imperfections.
Object of the analysis is the roof of the so-called "Schlüterhof" in the armory in Berlin where the exhibition of the "German Historical Museum" can currently be visited. The framework roofing the inner courtyard is a flat, glazed dome spanned by a plane and uniform steel mesh consisting of steel cross-sections...
... The steel mesh dome is imported into a framework program for calculation. Then an interpretation of the results from the stability analysis follows.

Description ... The architectural design of a 5-story office and residential building is already available. The building is a framed structure consisting of reinforced concrete with stiffening shear walls. The first 4 floors are used as office space. The 5th floor is used as living area. It is reduced by 5.125 m at the front end of the building (roof garden area), above the storage and the storage office. The building is found on plane ground. The allowed soil contact pressure is 250 kN/m² according to the soil expertise. The frontage is carried out as glass façade. Balconies are arranged in front of the frontage. The walls of the individual offices/living space are designed to be lightweight walls that can be shifted in various ways. The height between the floors is 4.50 m in the first floor and 3.50 m in the remaining stories ...
Others ... I thank you for having the possibility to use Dlubal software. It was very interesting and I had also a lot of fun working with the programs. The software is really user-friendly. The available training videos also helped me a lot. Finally, I must say I appreciate Dlubal programs very much.

Description ... Regarding the large number of railway bridges in the rail network of the German DB company, a large part is supported on columns of less than 30 m. Thus, those small bridge constructions form the basis of the civil engineering works that can be found in the German railway system. Today, the WiB construction method (WiB means Walzträger in Beton in German, rolled girders in concrete in English) is mainly applied in special cases of railway bridge construction, for example in inner-city areas. Due to its type of construction, the method is well suited for bridges with restricted or very small building height, but also for construction projects concerning highly frequented traffic facilities...
Others ...I would like thank you for making available the software package RSTAB 6 / RFEM 3 so quickly and for free. Thus, it was possible for me to finish my Master thesis concerning the "Calculation and Design Method for Rolled Girders in Concrete (WiB)" successfully and in due time at the University of Applied Sciences (HTW) Dresden...

10. Graduation Thesis Julia Koska

Subject Post-critical analysis on a dome segment
Author Julia Koska
Address Brunnenstraße 149
10115 Berlin
Institute Fachhochschule Potsdam
Fachbereich Bauingenieurwesen
Advisor Prof. Dipl.-Ing. W. Habermann
Date 01/14/2009
Programs and modules used RSTAB, Zusatzmodule
Number of pages 333
Table of contents
Description ... During my research work, I encountered an uncommon case of failure that can occur for this type of dome construction: the postcritical failure. After detailed investigations I found out that the calculation method for such a failure case is based on the large deformation analysis. This means that you have to take into account, in contrast to the second-order analysis, relatively large deformations for the calculation until a new stable equilibrium is found iteratively on the deformed system...

... However, due to the dome's unique segment structure, an idea came into my mind to take away one of those segments in order to check it representatively for the entire dome. As this segment represents a spatial structure and a manual calculation might require an high effort concerning theoretical background and analysis time, it was necessary to use a framework program for preliminary investigations and the evaluation of tests. The new RSTAB version 6.03 from the Dlubal company is able to calculate great structural deformations according to the large deformation analysis. Because I could use the software freely, provided by the Dlubal company, it was possible to use it for my thesis...
Others ... I really want to thank the Dlubal company for providing me with the RSTAB full version so that I could write my diploma thesis...

NOTE

Worldwide universities and institutions of higher education are using Dlubal software in their engineering courses.

Simple problems can be solved by using only the demo versions of RSTAB and RFEM. In this way, students can quickly get a feeling for deformations and qualitative distribution of governing internal forces.

In addition, students have the option to get a student license and to use all Dlubal programs at a low fee.
