RF-DYNAM Addition I 4.xx

Extension of RF-DYNAM Module
for Forced Vibration Analysis
(Time History Analysis and
Response Spectrum Method)

RF-DYNAM Addition I is an extension of the RFEM add-on module RF-DYNAM. It carries out the dynamic structural analysis considering an external excitation. You can define various excitation functions by using time histories of forces or moments, accelerations (accelerogram) or harmonic loads. The excitation can be described by means of specified response spectra as well.

The eigenmodes calculated in RF-DYNAM Basic can be used to determine time histories or extreme values of the following quantities:
internal forces of members, surfaces, and solids; nodal and line support forces; deformations; deformation velocities; surface contact stresses and solid stresses.
Features

  • Forced vibration analysis based on the time history analysis or response spectrum method
  • Accelerograms for excitations of nodal and line supports by time-dependent accelerations with a transformation option
  • Harmonic loads can be defined as the force function f(t) and moment function m(t) for specifying an amplitude, angular frequency, and phase shift
  • Predefined response spectra for analyzing the structure affected by a seismic support node excitation according to the modal-analytical response spectrum method
  • Rules for superimposing in the response spectrum analysis according to the square root of the sum of squares (SRSS) procedure or complete quadratic combination (CQC)
  • Efficient Newmark-Wilson integration for calculation of the transient dynamic response
  • Consideration of initial deformations and velocities
  • Load factors for different global directions
  • Combination of several independent excitation force functions in one dynamic load case
  • Automatic generation of response spectra considering viscous damping
  • Option to wake any nodes or lines by different excitation types simultaneously
  • Definition of up to 99 excitation cases that can be stored in libraries for later usage in other structures
  • Input of tabular loads to define single time-dependent forces and moments
  • Extendable library for typical response spectra according to UBC 97, EC 8, and DIN 4149
  • Possibility to export all results in user-defined time steps or as a decisive enveloping load combination to RFEM

Analysis

The efficient Newmark-Wilson integration is used to determine dynamic behavior. With RF-DYNAM Addition I, and the response spectrum method in particular, you can analyze additional seismic effects independently of a standard in practice. Numerous response spectra are already provided by the library, but in RF-DYNAM Addition I, you can enter any response spectrum according to the relevant standard.

Results

Due to the integration of RF-DYNAM in RFEM, you can incorporate numeric and graphic results from RF-DYNAM Addition I to the global printout report. In addition, all RFEM options are available for a graphical visualization.

You can export the results of the dynamic analysis to RFEM for the further design. At the same time, you can filter out the most unfavorable results from all time steps or from any time step. Moreover, an option to export the module's result tables to Excel/OpenOffice.org Calc is available.
