Extension of RF-DYNAM Basic for Generation of Equivalent Seismic Loads According to Multi-modal Response Spectrum Method 

RF-DYNAM Addition II is an add-on module for RFEM to determine loadings due to equivalent seismic loads according to the multi-modal response spectrum method:

RF-DYNAM Addition II requires the results of the natural frequency calculation provided by RF-DYNAM Basic.

Input

The standard relevant input parameters are preset but can be edited manually. In this way, it is possible to take into account, in addition to the rules implemented in the program, similar standards to some extent. The respective masses are part of the calculation already when analyzing the RFEM model's eigenvalues. Then, you define the standard-specific calculation parameters in RF-DYNAM Addition II.
The direction of the earthquake vibrations is freely selectable, but they can also be applied automatically in the eigenmode's governing direction. Similarly, the ordinate value of the design spectrum can be freely selected or automatically determined by the program. The design spectrum can be displayed graphically showing also the ordinate's location. The components in direction X, Y and Z can either be set automatically according to the standard, or manually adjusted by means of factors.
 
Calculation

Subsequent to the geometry input in RFEM, you start the analysis of eigenfrequencies in RF-DYNAM Basic (required to use RF-DYNAM Addition II). If masses are to be considered for the calculation, they are already taken into account.
When you determine equivalent lateral forces according to DIN 4149 and EC 8, you can select between the design spectrum for linear calculation and the elastic response spectrum.
In case the American design method IBC 2000 is used, the procedures according to section 1617 "Equivalent Lateral Force Procedure" or section 1618 "Modal Analysis Procedure" are available.
 
Results

The equivalent lateral loads determined in RF-DYNAM Addition II are transferred respectively, separated by eigenmodes, in a new RFEM load case and, moreover, superimposed in a load combination. You can already decide in RF-DYNAM Addition II what type of superposition you want to select.
