RSIMP 7.xx

Generation of Equivalent Geometric Imperfections and Pre-deformed
Initial Structures

RSIMP is a powerful RSTAB add-on module used to create equivalent geometric imperfections (equivalent lateral loads) or a pre-deformed initial structure in RSTAB.

To use all features provided by RSIMP, it is recommended to install the add-on modules RSBUCK and DYNAM Basic.
Features

  • Generation of equivalent lateral loads according to
    • DIN 18800-2:1990-11 elastic-elastic
    • DIN 18800-2:1990-11 elastic-plastic
    • EN 1992-1-1:2004-12
    • EN 1993-1-1:2005-07
    • DIN 1045-1:2001-07
    • DIN 1052:2004-08
  • Creation of equivalent imperfections based on deformation of a load case, a buckling mode or an eigenvalue
  • Generation of different imperfection cases for unfavorable directions of action
  • Determination of inclination and precamber conforming to standards
  • Transfer option for generated equivalent imperfections to an RSTAB load case
  • Consideration of buckling lines according to DIN 18800 and EC 3
  • Generation of equivalent imperfections for members and sets of members
  • Creation of a pre-deformed equivalent model for RSTAB
Input

The data is entered in two clearly-arranged tables. RSIMP considers the deformation of a load case, of a buckling shape from RSBUCK or of an eigenmode from DYNAM as basis for the inclinations' and precambers' orientation. Equivalent imperfections can be applied to single members as well as to continuous members.

The cross-sections' buckling curves according to DIN 18800-2, table 3, and EN 1993-1-1, table 5.1, are already implemented in the cross-section library. Thus, you can apply the precamber correctly without any problems. To calculate the imperfections accurately, RSIMP also takes into account the reduction factors r1 and r2 or ah and am.

As an alternative for equivalent imperfections in the form of equivalent lateral loads, the program can determine a pre-deformed initial structure. This is a procedure that is recommended, for example, for shell-shaped structures.

Generation

The inclinations and precambers are determined either in both directions of the member axis or, as described in DIN 18800 and EC3, in the governing direction.

It is also possible, however, to create a geometrically imperfect equivalent model based on the nodal displacements, buckling modes or eigenvalues. The model is then scaled by a user-defined ordinate value. Subsequently, the vectors of the displacements are added to the coordinates of the original, non-deformed RSTAB structure.

Results

The generated imperfections are listed in a table. You can check the data directly on the RSTAB model to find out if RSIMP has applied imperfections to all members with a risk for buckling. By mouse-click, you can easily transfer the imperfections into an RSTAB load case where they can be adjusted, if necessary.

Then, together with the corresponding main load cases (for example in case of changing load directions such as wind), the imperfection load cases will be superimposed in RSTAB in load groups. When imperfections are taken into account, and the calculation according to the second-order analysis has been successful, the buckling designs for any kind of cross-section are fulfilled, in accordance with DIN 18800 or EC 3, too.

All results tables of RSIMP can be exported to MS Excel or OpenOffice.org Calc.
