RX-TIMBER Column 1.xx

Design of Timber Columns According to
EN 1995-1-1:2004-11 (EC5)
or DIN 1052:2008-12

The stand-alone module RX-TIMBER Column designs rectangular and round timber columns according to EN 1955-1-1:2004 (EC5) and DIN 1052:2008. At this, the ultimate and serviceability limit state design is carried out as well as the fire protection design.
Program Features

  • Design of the following column types:
    • Hinged column, optionally with elastic restraint of head or footing
    • Bracket, optionally with elastic restraint of footing
  • Simple geometric input with supportive graphics
  • Comprehensive material library
  • Allocation of the model to service classes and specification of live load categories
  • Detailled setting for the fire protection design
  • Specification of limit deformation for serviceability design
  • Determination of design criteria, support forces and deformations
  • Colored relation scales in the result tables
  • Verifiable printout report with all required proofs
  • For EN 1995, the following national annexes are available:
    • DIN EN 1995-1-1/NA:2009-04
    • ÖNORM B 1995-1-1:2009-07-01
    • CSN EN 1995-1-1:2009
    • EN 1995-1-1 DK NA:2007
    • SFS EN 1995-1-1:2004
    • UNI EN 1995-1-1:2007-11
    • NA to BS EN 1995-1-1:2006
  • Automatic generation of wind and snow loads
  • Many optional reductions according to the selected standard
  • Direct data export to MS Excel or OpenOffice.org Calc
  • German, English or Czech program interface
  • Direct data import of volumes from various CAD programs
Input

There are many varieties available how to model the column. The input of the geometry is supported by graphic illustrations. All changes are updated automatically.
As material, the desired timber grade can be chosen from a library. There are the strength classes available as defined in the respective standards for glulam timber, poplar and coniferous timber. Furthermore, the user can extend the contents of the library by creating a new timber grade with user-defined material characteristics.
The load cases can be checked graphically. They are combined automatically in load combinations.

Design

In the module Column the following specifications can be set for the calculation:
  • Selection of the designs to be carried out (ULS, SLS, fire protection)
  • Decision whether support forces and deformations are to be determined
  • Determination of the parameters for fire protection design according to simplified method
  • Specific settings for glulam timber columns to increase strength according to DIN 1052:08, table F.9, annotation b or c

Results

After the successful design, the verifications are shown with all required intermediate results in clearly structured tables. The results are arranged according to different criteria. As the intermediate values are also listed in detail, all types of verifications become transparent.
The result diagrams of any x-location of the column can be evaluated in a separate window. It is possible to display both the deformations and the single internal forces.
The verifications with the design details and selected result diagrams are included in a printout report so that the documentation is understandable and descriptive. The user can also define individually which data of the design are to be shown in the printout report.
