Design of Glued-Laminated Beams |
The stand-alone module RX-TIMBER Glulam designs glued-laminated beams for the ultimate and the serviceability limit state according to EN 1995-1-1:2004-11 (EC5) or DIN 1052:2008-12. In addition, the fire protection design according to EN 1995-1-2 or DIN 4102, part 22, is available.

| Input
Various options are available to model the beam. To facilitate the geometry input, graphical representations are displayed. Modifications are updated automatically.
Deflection of cantilevers can be set in the serviceability limit state design, independently from the deflection in the span.
Concerning material settings, it is possible to select the relevant timber grade from the material library. All material grades specified in EN 1995-1-1: 2004 (EC5) or DIN 1052:2008-12 and the selected National Annex are available for gluelam, leafy and coniferous timber.
Furthermore, it is possible to generate a strength class with user-defined material properties in order to extend the library.
For the input of permanent loads (for example roof structure) you can use as well a comprehensive material library that can be extended. The generators integrated in RF-TIMBER Glued-laminated Beam allow for a comfortable creation of various wind and snow load cases. The load cases are graphically displayed so that you can check the entered data. The loads are superimposed in automatically generated load combinations according to EN 1990, DIN 1055-100 or DIN 1052. Thus, the input data required is reduced to a minimum. Manual load specifications are possible as well. |

| Design
The following calculation settings can be defined: - Designs to be performed:
- Selecting the designs that you want to perform
- Determining whether support forces and deformations are displayed or not
- Adjusting the recommended limit values according to equations (40) to (42) for the deformation analyses
- Definition of parameters for the fire protection design carried out according to the simplified method (optionally for F 30-B,F 60-B, F 90-B and user-defined)
- Option to define a vibration design according to 9.3(2)
- Determination of tilting moment for pinned support
- Definition of support conditions for beam
- Optimization of beam by:
- Modification of beam depth
- Modification of viewing surface of beam
- Width of cross-section
- Spacing of lateral supports

| Results
Subsequent to the design, RX-TIMBER Glued-laminated Beam shows all performed designs including all required intermediate values in clearly arranged tables, sorted according to different criteria. As the program displays even the intermediate values in detail, transparency for all designs is guaranteed.
Furthermore, it is possible to display the distribution of internal forces for each x-location of the beam in a separate graphic window. RF-TIMBER Glued-laminated Beam can represent the deformations as well as the individual internal forces.
The designs including design details and selected result diagrams can be integrated in the printout report, which ensures a clearly-structured documentation. The printout report can be completed by graphics, descriptions, drawings etc. Moreover, it is possible to define individually which calculation data will appear in the printout. |
