Add-on Module for Stress and Stability Design for Timber Structures according to DIN 1052

TIMBER, the add-on module for RSTAB, is intended for stress and stability analyses according to DIN 1052-88 and other standards that depend on the principle of comparing existing stresses with allowable stresses. Stability can also be checked according to second order analysis (p-delta) with the consideration of imperfections in RSTAB.

Input The design cases, allowable stresses and cross-sections are specified in two input masks. In addition, graphic input can be done in many places by using the [Pick] function. Practical default settings limit the extent of the necessary input data to a minimum, while extensive adjustments can be still be done optionally.


Analysis Various load cases, load groups, load combinations and supercombinations can be arbitrarily compiled to different design cases. For a detailed analysis, the stresses of members or sets of members can be determined and displayed in all stress points. The allowable stresses according to DIN 1052 can be selected from an extensive material library. Allowable stresses that are not yet included can be entered, saved and used for future projects. The cross-sections used in the current RSTAB position are preset for design. New sections can be entered any time. In order to design particular user-defined sections, TIMBER will automatically generate the cross-section values. The automatic optimization of sections is a special feature of the program: TIMBER iteratively adapts the dimensions of the section in user-defined intervals until the most effective section geometry is found. The optimized section can then be transferred to RSTAB with a single mouse click.


Results and Output The results are given in synoptic tables. Next to result stresses, you can see the corresponding cross-section with numbered stress points, stress contours and values in the respective graphic. The stress ratio can be obtained for each type of stress. In RSTAB, the graphical TIMBER results are selectable simply from the pull down list [Loads and/or Result]. The stress ratios are marked by different colors. Critical or oversized members can thus be seen immediately. Graphics and numerical data can be put into the global printout report to get a comprehensible and descriptive documentation.
