Quai M, New Concert Hall in La Roche-Yon, France
Customer Project
Quai M opened its doors in September 2022 and includes two concert halls, rehearsal and recording studios. This project allows to offer new, more modern spaces and to replace the old concert hall "Le Fzz'Yon".

Model Parameters
Model
The three-story building, with an area of 28,300 ft², has been built on a former railway site. Within the main structure, two concert halls have been created, each with a capacity of about 800 and 200 guests, respectively.
The main goal was to achieve perfect acoustics and a high quality of distribution and recording. Therefore, the choice of materials fell on timber and concrete, which are essential elements for this goal.
The timber structure of this contemporary building brings a beam of light and warm to each interior. Additionally, a contrasting folded plate roof, which is supported by the attached timber structure, covers the two performance rooms while protection of the outdoor areas, creating a powerful visual harmony.
Design Software
For this project, the company LCA Construction Bois was responsible for the design, manufacturing, and installation of the timber frame. Due to the building's location in seismic zone 3, the entire structure was modeled in RFEM 5 for a detailed evaluation.
The engineering office carried out a detailed study of the timber structure with its complex geometry and the design of the steel elements using the RF‑TIMBER Pro and RF‑STEEL EC3 add‑on modules.
The building, due to its singular geometry with large openings under the roof, required digital wind tunnel simulations via RWIND to determine the wind pressures to be applied to the structure.
The global modeling of the project, including the concrete and the timber structure, made it possible to carry out a precise seismic analysis taking into account the stiffness of the individual structural elements using the RF-DYNAM Pro add-on modules.
Foundation straightening forces were also taken into account in this calculation.
