Housing Unit with CLT Structure in Seville, Spain

The project includes the design of a housing unit in the city of Seville, built for patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Due to the building's characteristics, the decision was made to design a structure with cross-laminated timber (CLT). The thesis checks the compliance of this structure by going through all the development phases: pre-dimensioning, material properties, Spanish and European design rules, and various verifications.

The structural analysis program used for modeling, dimensioning, and design of the CLT structure was RFEM from Dlubal Software. Using RFEM and its add-on modules RF-LAMINATE, RF-DYNAM Pro, RF-STABILITY, and RF-IMP, it was possible to calculate laminated surfaces consisting of glued cross-laminated timber and to perform seismic designs based on dynamic studies of ground vibrations and buckling analyses. With this program, the requirements for deflections, ULS, maximum stresses, and other necessary verifications have been fulfilled.
