The building and construction industry is increasingly digitized. Structural engineers, a smaller group in the construction industry, are not always considered to be engineers who follow the latest trends immediately. There is often good reason for this. Many consider this to be the reason that topics such as utilizing the BIM method are not yet the standard in structural engineering. However, the past few years have shown that a process of rethinking has begun, and new digital trends are being picked up and applied.

The calculation of structures based on digital twins is becoming an everyday task in the engineering office. If a digital building model already exists, you want to continue to use the information contained in it as seamlessly as possible. This states extensive requirements with regard to modeling and interfaces for BIM-compatible structural analysis software.
Building Information Modeling is making headlines in building design. While some engineers only use BIM methods for planning, others are dealing with this topic for the first time or rarely have time for it in their daily working routine. However, one topic seems the most important in structural engineering: How can structural engineers benefit from BIM?
Describing the procedure for the serviceability limit state design of a floor slab made of steel fiber reinforced concrete. This article shows how to perform the corresponding design for the SLS by means of the iteratively determined FEA results.
With the activated option 'Topology on Form-Finding Form' in Project Navigator - Display, the model display is optimized based on the form-finding geometry. For example, the loads are displayed in relation to the deformed system.
Always keep an eye on your results. In addition to the resulting load cases in RFEM or RSTAB (see below), the results from the aerodynamics analysis in RWIND 2 represent the flow problem as a whole:
- Pressure on structure surface
- Pressure field about structure geometry
- Velocity field about structure geometry
- Velocity vectors about structure geometry
- Flow lines about structure geometry
- Forces on member-shaped structures that were originally generated from member elements
- Convergence diagram
- Direction and size of the flow resistance of the defined structures
These results are displayed in the RWIND 2 environment and evaluated graphically. The flow results around the structure geometry in the overall display are rather confusing, but the program has a solution for this. In order to present clearly arranged results, freely movable section planes are displayed for the separate display of the 'solid results' in a plane. Accordingly, for the 3D branched streamline result, the program presents you an animated display in the form of moving lines or particles in addition to the static one. This option helps to represent the wind flow as a dynamic effect.
You can export all results as a picture or, especially for the animated results, as a video.
The direct interface with Revit allows you to update the Revit model according to the changes you have made in RFEM or RSTAB. Depending on the modification, the Revit objects may have to be regenerated (deleting the object and subsequent regeneration). The regeneration is performed on the basis of the RFEM/RSTAB model.
If you want to avoid this regeneration, activate the check box 'Update only materials, thicknesses, and sections'. In this case, only the properties of the objects will be adjusted. Changes different from those in material, surface thickness, and section are, however, not considered in this case.
Wind loads can be automatically generated as member loads on the following structural components (optional with internal pressure for open buildings):
- Vertical walls
- Flat roofs
- Monopitch roofs
- Duopitch/troughed roofs
- Vertical walls with roof
