1. Who are you?

My name is Robert Martinec.

2. What studies did you do and how did you come to Dlubal?

I studied at the Czech Technical University in Prague, graduating in 2007. Subsequently, I worked as a structural engineer. I joined Dlubal Software in 2018.

3. What are your tasks?

My task is primarily technical support, customer training, participation in conferences, as well as preparation of webinars, online training or seminars.

4. What is important in your job?

It is necessary to know the programs in detail and at the same time to have good knowledge of the construction industry. Thanks to my previous experience, I am familiar with both. Efficient communication with customers is also important.

5. What do you look forward to when you come into work in the morning?

All the colleagues in the office are great, so there is a pleasant atmosphere here. I like the variety of questions and topics I deal with on a daily basis. By addressing our customers‘ queries, I am also constantly learning and expanding my expertise.

6. What do you like about construction/BIM/statics in general?

I like the constant pushing of boundaries, and not only in the construction industry. New technologies enable more accurate calculations and better coordination of projects. The materials used are constantly being improved.

7. What has been the best experience so far?

Everyone is happy to receive positive feedback from a user when I help them solve a problem that has been complicating their work.

8. What is your hobby? How do you combine it with your job?

I like biking. So I plan my trips so that I can visit some interesting sites. The projects of our users thus provide me with inspiration.

9. What advice would you give to young civil engineers and graduates for the future?

Do not forget that the software will not design the building on its own. To create a model, you need to take into account what information you wish to obtain and choose the right procedure accordingly. It is also important to be able to interpret the results correctly and to be able to detect potential errors. Don't stop educating yourself and, in addition to academic knowledge, seek to obtain practical experience of the subject as well.

10. What is your favourite building?

I like tall buildings with a beautiful view of the surroundings. I am also fascinated by historical buildings that have stood for thousands of years and were built without any mechanization.
