Simulation of Masonry

3D Finite Element Analysis and Design

Structural engineering FEA software RFEM is the basis of a modular software system. RFEM is used to define structures, materials, and loads for planar and spatial structural systems consisting of plates, walls, shells and members.

The program also allows you to create combined structures as well as model solid and contact elements.

Application of Nonlinear Material Laws

RF-MAT NL allows you to apply the nonlinear material laws in RFEM.

Thus, you can define the "Isotropic Masonry 2D" material model, among other things.

Assessment of Masonry Structural Behavior in RFEM

By using the structural analysis software RFEM and the RF‑MAT NL add‑on module, it is possible to assess the structural behavior of masonry realistically.

The following article explains the procedure in detail.

Assessment of Structural Behavior of Masonry in RFEM

In order to realistically capture the structural behavior of masonry in RFEM, it is necessary to initially select a material and a material model. Since masonry responds to tension by cracking, a nonlinear material model must be specified. This can be done if the RF‑MAT NL add‑on module is available.
