Member Elastic Foundation

Glossary Term

While nodal supports allow for a support at both member ends, member elastic foundations make it possible to have an elastic support of a member in the entire length of it.

Thus, it is possible to model beams with an elastic foundation by means of including soil properties, for example. If the foundation is not effective under tensile or compressive stress, nonlinear effects can be considered in the calculation.
