Modulus of Elasticity

Glossary Term

The modulus of elasticity describes the relation between the normal stress and the strain of a solid material in the linear elastic area.

The modulus of elasticity is calculated as follows:

$\mathrm E\;=\;\frac{\mathrm{Δσ}}{\mathrm{Δε}}$

E is the modulus of elasticity,
σ is the normal stress,
ε is the strain.
