C Chemical Shrinkage

Chemical shrinkage (autogenous shrinkage) is the process of volume reduction, which accompanies the hydration from start to finish.
In construction, this form of shrinkage occurs in concrete structures. During the hydration process, parts of the mixing water are chemically bound. In the chemically bound state, the water in concrete has a smaller volume than at the initial point in time, which affects the total volume.

With the increasing stiffness, the deformations are opposed by the resistance that can cause stresses. As of this moment, the shrinkage is referred to as autogenous shrinkage.
