How can I shift the nodes of an inclined top chord to the member axis of a generated 2D truss without having to calculate the x- and z-vector beforehand?
First of all, select the corresponding nodes of the inclined top chord to shift them to the member axis. On the "Edit" menu, select "Project". The "2D Project" dialog box appears, where you can shift the node by a factor and the direction.
If this factor is difficult to determine, then the following procedure might help you. To shift the node in, for example, the x-direction, simply change the coordinates of the node to the new coordinates. In this way, the chord in no longer inclined, which you can correct by using "Project 2D" dialog box. To do this, first select the corresponding nodes and specify the projection direction and target line in the "Project 2D" dialog box (see figure).
For the given definition of the structural system, you must use the projection direction Z and define the target line by 2 points that describe the inclination of the chord. After you click [OK], the inclination of the chord and the position of the nodes is correct again.
