Question

I would like to design banisters, so I have created a set of members for this. The cross-section is a hollow section. Can the stability analysis be carried out on the entire structure, or do I have to convert it into an equivalent member design with the specification of all supports in STEEL EC3?

Answer:
For a free-to-warp cross-section, we recommend performing the design on the entire structure using the second-order analysis - internal forces as well as local and global imperfections. Thus, it is not necessary to enter the effective lengths and nodal supports (for sets of members). However, please activate gamma_M1 for the cross-section design.
