Trapezoidal Sheets

What is the fastest way to model trapezoidal sheets by means of surfaces in RFEM?

Answer:

Various trapezoidal sheets are available in the cross-section library of RFEM. These cross-sections are primarily used for stabilization measures in the RF‑/STEEL EC3 add-on module (for RFEM 5) or in the Steel Design add-on (for RFEM 6) and for modeling boundary conditions for a warping torsion analysis. Therefore, the direct design as a member is not possible.

Nevertheless, you can use these cross-sections as templates to model surfaces and analyze their stresses. To do this, proceed as follows.

First, model the trapezoidal sheet as a member. Then, convert the member into surfaces (see Image 01). Thus, you obtain the trapezoidal sheet geometry as a surface model.

It is also possible to create curved trapezoidal sheets. If you split a curved member into surfaces, it is created using straight segments. If you still want to use curved lines, you can rotate the boundary lines accordingly. The video shows the procedure.
