• ### After having downloaded the installation file, an error message appears saying that the setup file is defective. What can I do?

New FAQ 003619 EN-US

If this error occurs, the download did not run correctly. Please download the program again. Please note that the file can only be executed after the complete download.
• ### How do the network licenses work and how often is it possible to license a program to it?

FAQ 003417 EN-US

Generally, two things are required for the licensing:
2. corresponding authorization file
The license key can be provided via a USB dongle or by means of a network softlock on a central company server. For the licensing from perspective of a client, there must be a permanent connection to the server. Once a license has been assigned, it can be viewed on the web-based license surface at http://localhost:1947/_int_/sessions.html. An automatic timeout after 12 hours of inactivity prevents a license from being permanently assigned and releases it to other users.
With the most recent generation of license keys, it is possible to activate 50 licenses per program and add-on module. This means that you can access RFEM and RF-STEEL EC3 from a maximum of 50 computers at a time.
• ### Why is a transversal compression factor kc,90 of 1.0 assumed in the support compression design?

FAQ 003381 EN-US

For concentrated loads in the vicinity of the support, it is mandatory to apply the smaller transversal compression coefficient of kc,90 according to Section 6.1.5 (4) of the Eurocode 5.

Optionally, it is possible to deactivate the support compression design in the program RX-TIMBER and to do corresponding transversal compression  reinforcements.

If the entered concentrated load is not relevant for design, the user has the additional option to assign the transversal compression factor with a user-defined assignment (Figure 3).
• ### I have purchased the programs RFEM and RSTAB. In My Account on the Dlubal extranet site, however, it is possible to see only RFEM (or only RSTAB) in the download area. Why is that?

FAQ 003337 EN-US

Whether or not the download for RFEM or RSTAB is displayed in the download area of the Dlubal account depends on whether or not you have concluded a service contract for the respective product.

If a service contract has been concluded for the respective product, the links for this product are visible.

If no service contract has been concluded, no links are visible.

If you purchase RFEM or RSTAB without a service contract at a specific time, you are entitled to use this program version. If you need the download link for the purchased program version, you can download it on our homepage in the 'Previous Program Versions' section.

• ### Is it also possible to edit the loads applied in RX-TIMBER?

FAQ 003198 EN-US

Yes, that is possible. In the input window "Loads" of the add-on module, you can modify the loads by using the "Show Generated Loads..." or "Define Additional Loads..." button (see Figure 1).

• ### When I open the Windows calculator in Dlubal Software, an error message appears. The calculator will start, however, it is not possible to import the results directly. What is the reason?

FAQ 003138 EN-US

Unfortunately, the calculator implemented in Windows 10 is not compatible with our programs. You can use e.g. the “Copy” option to paste the values into the clipboard and then paste them into the program to still use the calculator. A better alternative is to replace the Windows 10 calculator with Windows 7 or Windows 8. There are sufficient instructions on the Internet to carry out this procedure. It is only necessary to make sure that the file calc.exe in the Windows folder C:\Windows\System32 starts the old calculator afterwards. The Windows 7 calculator can then be used as usual after importing the results.

• ### Is it possible to open RX-TIMBER files in RSTAB and RFEM?

FAQ 003133 EN-US

To open an RX-TIMBER file in RFEM or RSTAB, select the option “All Files (*.*)” as “File Type” (see Figure 01). The geometric data, loads as well as load combinations will be imported. Settings relevant for the design, for example, shear force reduction, fire protection definitions, serviceability limit state parameters, etc., are not applied and must be redefined in RF-/TIMBER Pro.

If the model does not appear in the work window, display the view with the option “Show Whole Model” (see Figure 02).

• ### How can I change the language of the RX-TIMBER add-on module?

FAQ 003131 EN-US

Contrary to RSTAB and RFEM, you can find the language setting of the RX-TIMBER add-on module in the project manager of the program. The corresponding setting can be found under "Edit" in the menu bar (see Figure 1).

• ### In the RX-TIMBER module, there is the "Edge Beam" feature. What exactly does this option do?

FAQ 003050 EN-US

This option allows you to determine whether to design an edge beam or an inner beam arranged between the individual spans. The load application differs as follows:

Inner beam:
${\mathrm q}_{\mathrm k}\;=\;{\mathrm q}_{\mathrm k'}\;\cdot\;\mathrm a\;\cdot\;\mathrm k$

Edge beam:
${\mathrm q}_{\mathrm k}\;=\;{\mathrm q}_{\mathrm k'}\;\cdot\;\left(\frac{\mathrm a}2\;+\;\mathrm ü\right)\;\cdot\;\mathrm k$

a is the beam or rafter spacing
ü is the roof overhang on the gable
k is the load factor for the effect of continuity
pk' is the surface load in kN/m²

The application area is shown in Figure 02.

• ### The dimensioning in the graph is, depending on the system, in the expression of RX-TIMBER is very confusing. Can you optimize this?

FAQ 002962 EN-US

By default, the graphic is printed at only 40% of the page height in the log. In some cases, it makes sense to display the graphic over the entire page height and to rotate the graphic by 90 ° (see Fig. 02). Normally, it should be sufficient to display the dimensions with two decimal places in order to save space. This setting can be specified in the "Units and Decimal Places" menu (see Fig. 03). Lastly, the help lines can be shortened and the font size reduced (see Fig. 04). A font size of 5 should be sufficient for an A4 printout. To choose such a small font size, the font "Small Fonts" should be used. The finished result is shown in picture 05.

#### First Steps

We provide hints and tips to help you get started with the main programs RFEM and RSTAB.

#### Wind Simulation & Wind Load Generation

With the stand-alone program RWIND Simulation, wind flows around simple or complex structures can be simulated by means of a digital wind tunnel.

The generated wind loads acting on these objects can be imported to RFEM or RSTAB.

#### Your support is by far the best

“Thank you very much for the useful information.

I would like to pay a compliment to your support team. I am always impressed how quickly and professionally the questions are answered. In the industry of structural analysis, I use several software including service contract, but your support is by far the best.”
