New Member Type 'Spring'
Tips & Tricks
RSTAB now offers the new member type “Spring”. With this option, you can simulate member-shaped springs in a calculation model. The spring member is implemented in such a way that it acts like a hinged member in the global model and exerts its spring properties over the longitudinal direction of the member.
Unlike other member types, the spring member doesn't need any definition of the cross‑section and material. All stiffness properties can be directly specified in the settings of the spring parameters.
In particular, this spring option can transfer not only linear but also nonlinear spring properties. In addition to simple linear spring stiffness, it is also possible to directly define a force-deformation diagram. This diagram option helps consider effects like slippage, spring limit, or curved spring characteristics.
In the graphical work window, the springs are represented by spiral lines (similar to tension spring).
