Concrete Design | Punching | Design

You have two options in RFEM. On the one hand, you can determine the punching load from a single load (from column/loading/nodal support) and the smoothed or unsmoothed shear force distribution along the control perimeter. On the other hand, you can specify them as user-defined.

Calculate the design ratio of the punching shear resistance without punching reinforcement as a design criterion and the program will deliver you the corresponding result. In the case of exceeding the punching shear resistance without punching reinforcement, the program determines the required punching reinforcement as well as the required longitudinal reinforcement for you.

Determining Required Longitudinal Reinforcement for Shear Force Design
The shear force resistance VRd,c without computational shear force reinforcement according to 6.2.2 of EN 1992-1-1 [1] or 10.3.3 of DIN 1045-1 [2] is calculated depending on the longitudinal reinforcement ratio. If the required longitudinal reinforcement from the bending design is used for the calculation of VRd,c, this leads to an underestimation of the shear force resistance without shear reinforcement in the vicinity of the hinged end supports. In contrast to the shear force, the required bending reinforcement decreases in the direction of the support. Furthermore, the actually inserted longitudinal reinforcement usually deviates significantly from the required bending reinforcement in the end support area (for example, in the case of non-staggered beam reinforcement).
Floor Slab with Racking Loads
Describing the procedure for the serviceability limit state design of a floor slab made of steel fiber reinforced concrete. This article shows how to perform the corresponding design for the SLS by means of the iteratively determined FEA results.

Defining Longitudinal Reinforcement of Member

The Concrete Design add-on combines all CONCRETE add-on modules from RFEM 5 / RSTAB 8. Compared to these add-on modules, the following new features have been added to the Concrete Design add-on for RFEM 6 / RSTAB 9:

  • Input of design-relevant specifications (effective lengths, durability, reinforcement directions, surface reinforcement) directly in the RFEM or RSTAB model
  • Extensive input options for longitudinal and transverse reinforcement of members
  • Detailed intermediate results for the design with specification of the equations of the applied standard for better traceability of the calculation
  • New interaction diagram with interactive graphic for N, M, and M + N from cross-section design incl. output of the secant and tangent stiffness
  • Design of the defined reinforcement in the ultimate limit state and serviceability limit state incl. graphical output of the design ratio for the respective component
  • Automatic check of the defined reinforcement with regard to the construction or general reinforcement rules for reinforced member and surface components
  • Cross-section design optionally with net values of the concrete section
  • Design according to the Russian standard SP 63.13330
Activating Add-on "Optimization & Costs / CO2 Emission Estimation"

Both optimization methods have one thing in common. At the end of the process, they provide you with a list of model mutations from the stored data. Here you can find the details of the controlling optimization result and the associated value assignment of the optimization parameters. This list is organized in descending order. You can find the assumed best solution shown in the first line. For this, the optimization result with its determined value assignment is closest to the optimization criterion. All add-on results have a utilization < 1. Furthermore, once the analysis is completed, the program will adjust the value assignment to that of the optimal solution for the optimization parameters in the global parameter list.

In the material dialog boxes, you can find the additional tabs "Cost Estimation" and "Estimation of CO2 Emissions". They show you the individual estimated sums of the assigned members, surfaces, and solids per unit weight, volume, and area. Furthermore, these tabs show the total cost and emission of all assigned materials. This gives you a good overview of your project.

  • Deformation analyses of reinforced concrete surfaces without or with cracks (state II) by applying the approximation method (for example, deformation analysis according to ACI 318-19, 24.3.2.5 or EN 1992‑1‑1, Cl. 7.4.3 )
  • Tension stiffening of concrete applied between cracks
  • Optional consideration of creep and shrinkage
  • Graphical representation of results integrated in RFEM, such as deformation or sag of a flat slab
  • Clear numerical result display in the detail dialog box
  • Complete integration of results in the RFEM printout report
Serviceability Configuration

Are you looking for a deformation calculation? Check the Serviceability Configuration, where it can be activated. You can also control the consideration of long-term effects (creep and shrinkage) and tension stiffening between cracks in the dialog box above. The creep coefficient and shrinkage strain are calculated using the specified input parameters, or you can define them individually.

Furthermore, you can specify the deformation limit value individually for each structural component. The max. deformation is defined as the allowable limit value. In addition, you have to specify whether you want to use the undeformed or the deformed system for the design check.
