Multi-Purpose Hall in Calais, France

A new multi‑purpose hall in the historic city center of Calais, France was inaugurated in mid-June 2015.

The hall, made of steel, timber, and aluminum, has a modular structure. Therefore, it can be used for many occasions (weekly markets, fairs, concerts, spectacles, and much more).

Structure

The multi-purpose hall in Calais is a structure with a wide self-supporting span of 65.6 x 121 x 41 ft.

On a base area of 10,764 ft2, the hall has a room with 8,073 ft2.

The gathered form of the interior wooden cladding and the exterior aluminum coating fit perfectly due to rigid metal frame beams bonded to each other, which adapt perfectly to the forms.

The grid metal frame beams have a static depth of 5.7 ft with a span of up to 110 ft. In order to stabilize them laterally, shell structures of reinforced concrete were constructed. They were also used for the engineering rooms of the building.
