Design Ratio for Highly Eccentric Loads in Core of Concrete Foundation

Serviceability limit state design for foundation rotation of a concrete foundation

The image shows the design ratio for the serviceability limit state design for foundation rotation (SE7801) of a concrete foundation. The ratio of the existing eccentricity to the allowable limit eccentricity (e/elim) is evaluated. Eccentricity describes the location of the resultant force relative to the center of the foundation. If the resultant force lies within the core area, the soil joint remains entirely under compression. As the design ratio increases, the resultant force approaches the edge of the core area. If the limit value is exceeded, partial lifting of the foundation may occur, leading to impermissible tensile stresses in the soil joint.
