Simulation of Masonry
Structural engineering FEA software RFEM is the basis of a modular software system. RFEM is used to define structures, materials, and loads for planar and spatial structural systems consisting of plates, walls, shells and members.
The program also allows you to create combined structures as well as model solid and contact elements.
By using the structural analysis software RFEM and the RF‑MAT NL add‑on module, it is possible to assess the structural behaviour of masonry realistically.

The structural analysis software provided by Dlubal can be seamlessly integrated into the Building Information Modeling (BIM) process. A variety of interfaces allows you to exchange data from digital building models with RFEM or RSTAB.

The building element 1 is a framed structure made of reinforced concrete. The structure includes a deep basement used as a parking garage, and a first floor with laboratories.
These designed multi-story residential buildings with commercial units on the ground floor and a one‑story underground parking garage are located in Krakow, Poland.
The building consists of four segments with a common foundation plate and underground level extending beyond the outline of the aboveground structure.

In order to realistically capture the structural behaviour of masonry in RFEM, it is necessary to initially select a material and a material model. Since masonry responds to tension by cracking, a nonlinear material model must be specified, which can be done if the RF‑MAT NL add‑on module is available.

The direct interface with Revit allows you to update the Revit model according to the changes you have made in RFEM or RSTAB. Depending on the modification, the Revit objects may have to be regenerated (deleting the object and subsequent regeneration). The regeneration is performed on the basis of the RFEM/RSTAB model.
If you want to avoid this regeneration, activate the option "Update only materials, thicknesses, and sections." In this case, only the properties of the objects will be adjusted. Changes different from those in material, surface thickness, and section are, however, not considered in this case.
