# Minimum Reinforcement

### Glossary Term

000159

For beams, the minimum reinforcement (robustness) describes the minimum cross-section area of the statically required longitudinal reinforcement provided for the designed cross-section.
In this case, the minimum reinforcement has various tasks, such as preventing failure without prior warning, receiving measurable imposed deformation (due to temperature, shrinkage, and so on) and ensuring ductile behaviour of structural components.
