Arrangement of Line Releases Between Surfaces of Different Sizes

In case of a line release placed between two surfaces with one of them hanging over the common connection line, you should pay attention to that when designing line releases.
The reason is, that the line release reduces the stiffness in the first adjacent element row of the related surface corresponding to the selected degrees of freedom. If the line release is placed on a larger surface, then the stiffness of all finite elements involved in the force transmission to a smaller surface is not reduced. The elements affecting the start and end nodes of the lines, but not the line itself, still transfer the forces. This behaviour is illustrated in the figure.
The described effect also occurs if there are other elements (for example members) at the start or end point of the line release.
