Useful Program Features
The Knowledge Base includes technical articles on a wide array of structural analysis and design topics.
These articles are intended to help you navigate through the Dlubal programs, learn efficient tips and tricks, and provide further insight into the program features.
Why Dlubal Software?
Modeling Containers by Generating a 3D CellWith the function "Generate Model - Members" → "3D Cell", it is very easy to generate containers (shipping containers, office containers, mobile homes, etc.) with regular and irregular distribution of the cells.
Warping Torsion Analysis According to AISC Design Guide 9The design of a torsional loaded beam according to AISC Design Guide 9 will be shown based on a verification example. The design will be performed with the RF-STEEL AISC add-on module and the RF-STEEL Warping Torsion module extension with 7 degrees of freedom.
Consideration of Possible Contact Between Overlapping MembersFrom time to time it happens that two intersecting beams overlap at a short distance.
Stiffened Buckling Panels According to EN 1993-1-5, Section 4.5In SHAPE-THIN, it is possible to perform the calculation of stiffened buckling panels according to Section 4.5 of EN 1993-1-5. For stiffened buckling panels, the effective surfaces due to local buckling of the single panels in the plate and in the stiffeners as well as the effective surfaces from the entire panel buckling of the stiffened entire panel have to be considered.
Modeling and Bending Design of Point-Supported Flat SlabThis article describes how a flat slab is generated as 2D model in RFEM and the loading is applied according to Eurocode 1.
Assistance Tools for Cable StructuresRFEM and RSTAB are able to cover a large number of branches in the field of building and construction industry with their generally usable structural frame analysis and FEM programs. The design of cable structures is thus also possible in both software solutions. In the following, some assistance tools for modeling and design will be presented.
Influence of Slip of Standardized Joints in Steel StructuresThis article deals with the stiffness of standardized joints according to the DSTV (German Steel Construction Association)/DASt (German Committee for Structural Steelwork) standards, often used in steel construction, and its effects on structural analysis and design results according to DIN EN 1993-1-1.
Fin Plate Connections: Theory and ApplicationFin plate connections are a popular form of pinned steel connections and are commonly used for secondary beams in steel structures. They can be easily used in beam structures arranged on the top edge, e.g. working platforms. Manufacturing expenditures in the workshop as well as the assembly costs on-site are normally manageable. The design seems to be completed easily and quickly, but has to be put into perspective to a certain extent in the following. Moreover, this connection type is basically possible as pinned beam to beam or pinned beam to column connection, whereas the first case is the more common one in design practice.
Modeling of Semi-Rigid Composite Beam Made of Timber as Surface ModelThere are several options to calculate a semi-rigid composite beam. They differ primarily in the type of modeling. Whereas the Gamma method ensures a simple modeling, additional efforts are required when using other methods (e.g. shear analogy) for the modeling which are, however, offset by the much more flexible application compared to the Gamma method.
Snow Load on Monopitch and Duopitch RoofsIn Germany, DIN EN 1991-1-3 with the National Annex DIN EN 1991-1-3/NA regulates the snow loads. The standard applies to civil engineering works at an altitude of up to 1,500 m above sea level.
