The stand-alone program RSECTION is at your disposal for determining section properties and performing stress analysis for thin-walled and massive cross-sections. The program can be connected to both RFEM and RSTAB so that sections from RSECTION are also available in the RFEM and RSTAB library. Likewise, internal forces from RFEM and RSTAB can be imported into RSECTION.
You can use the stand-alone program RSECTION to determine the section properties for any thin-walled and massive cross-sections, as well as to perform a stress analysis. The previous Knowledge Base article titled "Graphical/Tabular Creation of User-defined Cross-sections in RSECTION 1" discussed the basis of defining cross-sections in the program. This article, on the other hand, is a summary of how to determine the section properties and perform a stress analysis.
RSECTION 1 is a stand-alone program for determining section properties for both thin-walled and massive cross-sections, as well as for performing a stress analysis. In addition, the program can be connected to both RFEM and RSTAB: sections from RSECTION are available in the RFEM/RSTAB libraries, and internal forces from RFEM/RSTAB can be imported into RSECTION.
Using ASCE 7-22 for wind load calculations in RFEM and RWIND involves several specific steps to ensure that your structural designs meet the latest standards provided by the American Society of Civil Engineers. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to incorporate ASCE 7-22 wind load provisions into RFEM and RWIND simulations:
RSECTION contains an extensive library of rolled sections, as well as parametric thin-walled and massive cross-sections. You can compose them or supplement them with new elements.
Graphical tools and functions allow you to model complex section shapes in the usual way common for CAD programs. The graphical input supports, among other things, the setting of arcs, circles, ellipses, parabolas, and NURBS. As an alternative, you can import a DXF file and use this as the basis for further modeling. You can easily model a section consisting of different materials with minimum effort.
Furthermore, a parameterized input allows you to enter the cross-section dimensions and internal forces in such a way that they depend on certain variables.
You can also carry out all inputs by means of a script.
In RFEM, the oriented strand board (OSB) material is available for the USA and Canada. The material parameters are taken from the "Panel Design Specification manual".
The "Bracing in Cells" function allows you to generate diagonal bracing with just a few clicks. You can find this feature under Tools → Generate Model – Members → Bracing in Cells.
In RFEM and RSTAB, you can visualize the flow field quantities of pressure, velocity, turbulence kinetic energy, and turbulence dissipation rate for the wind simulation.
The clipping planes are aligned with the respective wind direction.
