In this article, a heavy cargo box is calculated according to the guidelines of the German Bundesverband Holzpackmittel (HPE). The load cases for Handling by Crane and Sea Transport are calculated.
The new RFEM software generation provides the option to perform stability design of tapered timber members in line with the equivalent member method. According to this method, the design can be performed if the guidelines of DIN 1052, Section E8.4.2 for variable cross-sections are met. In various technical literature, this method is also adopted for Eurocode 5. This article demonstrates how to use the equivalent member method for a tapered roof girder.
If you want to consider guide objects in the overall view (F8 key or double-click on the mouse wheel) or, for example, in a particular direction of the views, you can enable this option in the settings of the particular guide objects (guidelines, background layers, line grids).
Steel-fiber-reinforced concrete is mainly used nowadays for industrial floors or hall floors, foundation plates with low loads, basement walls, and basement floors. Since the publication in 2010 of the first guideline about steel-fiber-reinforced concrete by the German Committee for Reinforced Concrete (DAfStb), a structural engineer can use standards for the design of the steel fiber-reinforced concrete composite material, which makes the use of fiber-reinforced concrete increasingly popular in construction. This article describes the nonlinear calculation of a foundation plate made of steel fiber-reinforced concrete in the ultimate limit state with the FEA software RFEM.

This article explains the individual material parameters of steel-fiber-reinforced concrete and how to deal with these material parameters in the FEM program RFEM.
RF-COM/RS-COM is a programmable interface that allows the user to expand the main programs RFEM and RSTAB with customized input macros or post‑processing programs. A tool to copy and move selected guidelines in RFEM will be developed in this article. It is also possible to copy or move the guidelines to another work plane. VBA in Excel will be used as the programming environment.
In RFEM and RSTAB, you can now define the guidelines of dimensions with a fixed length. This new option allows you to define dimensions without having the structure covered by the guidelines. This way, dimensioning is clearer. You can activate this option under "Display Properties" → "General" → "Dimensions".
In addition to the options of Project Navigator - Display, you can modify the visibility of structures (members, surfaces, and so on) and guide objects (dimensions, comments, guidelines, and so on) in the menu and toolbar using the shortcut menus.
Starting with version X.05.0018, you can also analyze moment-resistant beam-column connections in RF‑/JOINTS Steel - DSTV. Both single-sided and double-sided connections are possible. In compliance with the DSTV guidelines, the program checks (with respect to the loading) whether the existing column cross‑section is dimensioned sufficiently. Optionally, you can transfer the rotational stiffness and the eccentricity of the connection to RFEM or RSTAB.
