With the Crossrail railway line in Great Britain, one of the biggest infrastructure projects of Europe is in progress. The construction costs for the 118‑kilometre railway line amount to about €21 billion. It runs from Reading in Berkshire in the West to Shenfield in Essex in the East crossing through the centre of London.

A branch line runs under the Thames to Woolwich and ends at the recently completed Abbey Wood Station. Its extraordinary timber roof construction has the shape of a huge manta ray which seems to hover above the station.

In October 2010, the Waterside Theatre opened its doors in Aylesbury near London. The town's new emblem mirrors in its floor plan and roof structure the shape of the "Chiltern Hills" in South East England.

The bar-shaped timber columns in the inside and outside area refer to the depths of the forest. The facade construction whose supporting structure is external, which means that the building's envelope is actually built inside (reversed facade), describes a floor plan having the shape of a peanut with six different radii of curvature.
