Frank Faulstich Calculation RFEM

What is the use of the unsymmetrical equation solver?

The unsymmetrical equation solver is able to improve the convergence. However, it should only be activated if there are really convergence problems.

For certain material models, you can also be requested to activate the unsymmetrical equation solver.

When using the "normal" equation solver, only one side of the matrix has to be stored because it is symmetric to the main diagonal. In the case of an unsymmetrical equation solver, both sides have to be saved and, of course, created beforehand. This requires more work memory and a longer processing time.

For a model that converges well anyway, the unsymmetrical equation solver only leads to a longer computing time and has no use.
