🚀 Exciting New Project by our Customer str.ucture GmbH - Timber Gridshell of Park Arena Furth im Wald, Germany! 🌲🏟️
We’re thrilled to share another amazing project by the Digital Timber Construction Group using Dlubal Software. The Park Arena Furth im Wald, designed as the centerpiece for the 2025 State Garden Show, replaces the former festival hall and provides seating for 450 people.
This timber gridshell stands out for its innovative geometric and structural features. Unlike traditional timber domes, it uses a P-hex segmentation with a combination of planar polygonal frames and reciprocal bracing. This unique design eliminates the need for steel plates in the joints, with metal only used to connect the timber structure to the foundations.
The 168 planar, polygonal cassettes, made up of nearly 1,900 unique elements, were CNC-fabricated with an impressive precision of 1 mm. Thanks to seamless integration between Rhino/Grasshopper and RFEM, the complex design was managed efficiently with synchronized modeling and structural analysis.
What makes this project even more remarkable is its sustainability. By using locally produced glued-laminated timber and dismountable connections, the structure sets a new benchmark for eco-friendly public buildings using timber as a sustainable material.
A huge congratulations to str.ucture GmbH for pushing the boundaries of timber construction with such a groundbreaking project!
