This article shows how the “Time-Dependent Analysis” add-on is integrated in RFEM 6 and RSTAB 9. It describes how to define input data such as the time-dependent characteristics of the material, how to determine the type of analysis and how to specify loading times.
In the case of using slow‑curing concrete (usually for thick components), you can reduce the calculated minimum reinforcement by a factor of 0.85 to apply the load due to restraint, according to EN 1992‑1‑1, Section 7.3.2. However, a precondition for reduction is that the characteristic value of the strength development r = fcm2 / fcm28 does not exceed 0.3. Other key requirements for the application of this reinforcement reduction are specified explicitly in the final planning documents.
RF‑/FOUNDATION Pro allows you to check the allowable eccentricity of the soil pressure resultants. According to DIN EN p;1997‑1/NA, this design is to be carried out with characteristic or representative loads.
The calculation in RFEM is usually carried out in several calculation steps (iterations). It is then possible to consider particular characteristics of the model, such as objects with nonlinear functions. In addition, by using the iterative calculation, nonlinear effects are taken into account that result from changes in deformation and internal forces in case of the second-order analysis or when considering large deformations (cable theory). In case of complex models, geometric linear calculations are usually insufficient.

In addition to determining loads, some particularities concerning the load combinatorics in timber design have to be considered. Contrary to steel structures, where the largest loading results from all unfavorable actions, in timber construction, the strength values depend on the load duration and timber humidity. Special characteristics have to be considered as well for the serviceability limit state design. The following article discusses the effects on the design of wooden elements and how this is possible with RSTAB and RFEM.
The SHAPE‑THIN stand-alone program determines the characteristic values and stresses of any thin‑walled cross‑sections. Graphic tools and features allow for modeling complex cross‑section shapes. In addition to the graphical input, it is also possible to enter the data in tables. As an alternative, you can import a DXF file and use it as a basis for further modelling. Also, each cross-section can be entered using the cross-section library of Dlubal Software and combined as a part with the user-defined elements.
In addition to the reinforced concrete design according to EN 1992‑1‑1, RF-/FOUNDATION Pro allows you to perform geotechnical designs according to EN 1997‑1. In RF-/FOUNDATION Pro, the design of the allowable soil pressure is performed as a ground failure resistance design. If you select CEN as National Annex, you have two options for defining the ground failure resistance. First, you can directly specify the allowable characteristic value of the soil pressure σRk. Second, there is also the option to analytically determine the bearing capacity according to [1], Annex D.
The RF‑LAMINATE library now includes the Kerto‑Q product by the company Metsä Wood. All LVL panels are available, including the characteristic strength parameters.
