In 2013, a very special project was implemented in Pitigala, Sri Lanka, located 3,728.22 miles away. A bridge was designed, calculated, and built by 30 students. They are part of the university group "Engineers Without Borders Karlsruhe Institute of Technology e.V.", which realizes development projects in seven different countries.
The bridge spans the Bentara River with a span length of 98.4 ft. During the 14-week construction phase, soldiers and villagers supported the German students.
