Bell Tower in Bleibach, Germany

With the bell tower in Bleibach, Germany, Dlubal customer Wirth Haker created a landmark for the small town that is both playful and impressive. The new building replaces the demolished church tower and perfectly complements the church tent, which was built in the 1970s, with its unusual shape.

The timber tower has a height of almost 34 m (111.6 ft). The floor plan is an equilateral triangle with sides measuring just under 6.6 m (21.7 ft), symbolizing the Holy Trinity in the Christian faith.

Based on the design of the church tent from the 1970s, the structure serves as a bell tower and viewing point for visitors. The exterior walls, staircases, platforms, and slab for the deck of the tower are made of cross-laminated timber. The high stiffness of the timber elements allows the dynamic loads from the swinging bells in the upper third of the tower to be transferred.

The facade and roof surfaces are sheathed with acetylated wood called Accoya. This timber has been chemically modified and is considered particularly resistant to weathering and wood-destroying fungi and insects. Horizontal metal strips visually divide the tower into floors.

The engineering office Wirth Haker from Freiburg im Breisgau calculated the bell tower using RFEM software by Dlubal.
