It is worth noting that the building’s geometry was designed to be architecturally very appealing, resulting in a glass facade at the front and western sections of the building, supported by steel columns. Based on the decentralized and asymmetrical arrangement of the stiffening wall elements, the rotational stiffness of the building had to be designed separately. The timber roof has a cantilever of up to approximately 1.7 m (5.58 ft) and required separate bracing in the corner areas due to the extended cantilever.
The roof also features an extensive green roof system and a solar power system. A “floating” foundation slab with a thickness of 25 cm (9.84 in) and exterior strip foundations is designed for the single-family house. The main loads from the supporting exterior walls and columns are primarily transferred by the rigid, peripheral strip foundations, especially since the existing soil replacement cushion (lower subgrade modulus reaction of approximately 2 MN/m³, that is, 12.71 kips/ft³) allowed for an elastic foundation for the foundation slab.
The relatively complex foundation was imported, modeled, and designed entirely in 3D directly in RFEM 6 by importing a .dxf layer from the BIM architectural model.
