🚧 Timber Meets Innovation in the Heart of Grenoble 🇫🇷
How do you ensure structural efficiency, seismic resilience, and environmental performance — all in one timber building? Here’s how our customer Arborescence tackled it:
Project: WOOD – Six-Story Office Building with Parking Deck
Grenoble, France | 6,081 m² GFA | 🌱 E3C2+77% Certification Target
This is not just another sustainable building — it’s Grenoble’s first multi-story office constructed mainly from timber, built on a former industrial site with zero new land consumption.
Engineering Focus
Composite timber-concrete hybrid with dual-block logic:
🪵 WEST Block:
• Self-supporting timber frame
• Diagonal bracing in 5.4 m grid → horizontal load transfer
• Braced between rows A & B → reduced edge column stresses
🌳 EAST Block:
• Tree-like Douglas fir structure (glulam)
• Triangular “branches” embedded in slab → node stability
• Concrete BA core provides lateral resistance
• Allows in-plane flexibility without load redistribution
All structural analyses were performed in RFEM 6, using:
🟦 RF-TIMBER Pro → Member design for beams, braces & columns
🟨 RF-STABILITY → Global and local buckling verification
🟩 RF-DYNAM Pro → Dynamic analysis to control vibrations in large open-space offices
