🏛️ Reviving History: Facade Preservation Project in Tallinn, Estonia
A fascinating project by Ehitusekspertiisibüroo OÜ and StruDesign OÜ is breathing new life into a historic factory in Tallinn, Estonia. Originally opened in 1898 as a cotton spinning and weaving mill, this building is being transformed into modern living spaces while preserving its iconic facade.
What makes this project stand out?
▪️ Five stories and one underground parking level will be added to the site.
▪️ The project will create 20,500 m² (220,660 ft²) of new living space on a 42,000 m² (452,084 ft²) site.
▪️ 22.5 m (73.8 ft) high walls, susceptible to wind forces due to the building's seaside location, are supported by a carefully calculated truss system.
One of the key challenges in this project was ensuring the facade’s structural integrity while optimizing it for modern use. RWIND was crucial in minimizing wind loads on the building, and RFEM was used to perform the complex structural calculations, ensuring both safety and durability.
This project is a perfect example of how modern engineering techniques can support the preservation of history. What are your thoughts on balancing historical preservation with innovative design? Let’s discuss!
Big congratulations to our customers Ehitusekspertiisibüroo OÜ and StruDesign OÜ for their excellent work! 👏
