This 32 m (105 ft) high timber lookout tower in the heart of the High Tatras National Park marks the end of a 600 m (1,968.5 ft) treetop walk and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Slovak mountains. ⛰️
The structure itself is even more inspiring. Designed by WIEHAG Timber Construction GmbH, the tower forms a 9-sided glulam cylinder, where each column is rotated by 40°. The elegant geometry is stabilized by a ring of diagonal struts, creating a delicate balance between lightness and strength.
Loads are carried from the timber columns through steel beams into reinforced concrete foundations, carefully designed to ensure uniform soil support and avoid differential settlements; a small detail, but vital for the long-term stability of the structure.
