Determination of Stiffnesses of Column Instead of Fixed Nodal Supports

Is it also possible to determine the stiffnesses of an existing column instead of a fixed nodal support?

Answer:

Yes, it is. This requires the activation of the elastic foundation in the "Edit Nodal Support" dialog box. On the basis of some input parameters, such as support type, column shape, material, and column height, the program determines the springs of the column (see the image).

In addition to the elastic support, another advantage is that the surface area of the column cross-section is deactivated when displaying the results. Therefore, singularities are hidden; thus, the concrete design applies design cross‑sections.
