Question

I am trying to import a model from cadwork. Unfortunately, I cannot correctly transfer the cross-sections from cadwork to RFEM. Do you have any tips?

Answer:
In the age of BIM, data exchange between the various disciplines of structural engineering is becoming increasingly important. Since each software has its own specifications with regard to the descriptions of cross-sections and materials, RFEM and RSTAB provide conversion tables that are available in the "Detail Settings" tab of the import and export dialog box. There, you can define the material and cross-section descriptions for the import and export. Dlubal's own descriptions can be selected easily from the extensive material and cross-section library. If necessary, the conversion tables can be distributed easily to any workstation in your office.

Cadwork and RFEM should be able to handle the cross-sections mutually, if they are correctly defined in the conversion table.

To ensure that the descriptions match, the following procedure is recommended:

  1. Create and export the cross-section in cadwork.
  2. Open the .stp file with the editor, and check which description is used for the cross-section.
  3. Enter this description in the conversion table of RFEM.
